Discipleship Vision

Discipleship Vision

Glendale’s vision for discipleship is to nurture people in five areas of discipleship to “develop a faithful, hopeful and loving community that inspires people to come to Jesus, become like Jesus and overcome in Jesus.”

Three concentric circles of relationship form the dynamic structure of this vision to:

  1. Invite our Community to Come to Jesus
  2. Instruct our Congregation to Become like Jesus
  3. Inspire our Core Groups to Overcome in Jesus

Five areas of discipleship define the development of a disciple as a:

  1. Member of God’s Family (Romans 12:4-5) – exploring what it means to be a Seventh-day Adventist Christian and an active member of the church
  2. Minister of God’s Gifts (1 Peter 4:10) – serving the needs of others within the Body of Christ through the unique gifts of the Spirit in us
  3. Model of God’s Character (Psalm 34:3– growing in prayer, Bible study, worship and character development to glorify Jesus through the excellence of our lives
  4. Missionary of God’s Purpose (Isaiah 6:8– inviting others to a life of discipleship with Jesus and a commitment to the mission of His church through our witness
  5. Mentor of God’s People (1 Corinthians 11:1– nurturing, training and inspiring the next generation of disciples to serve in Jesus’ name through our example
